Are you a java developer or J2EE administrator?
Would you be interested in meeting other java users in the south west?
Would you be interested in attending technology briefings and presentations from the big players in the java industry?
Would you be interested in attending study groups to assist with professional development and certification?
Would you just like to chat with like-minded individuals about the latest innovation in <<insert your java API of choice>>?
The Bristol Java User Group aims to provide a stimulating and sociable meeting place for the diverse community of java users and developers in the South West.
The intention is to provide information and services for all levels of java experience, from students and hobby programmers to experienced J2EE professionals.
The expectation is to arrange technical briefing sessions on a bimonthly basis and more frequent (weekly?) social meets if there is sufficient interest.
The topics of the technical sessions can be tailored according to demand and interest.
As well as presentations by the big java vendors we would also hope to draw upon experience in new technology and working practises from within the group.
The hope is that we can keep costs minimal by taking advantage of the good will of members and begging for sponsorship from the bigger vendors.
However, depending on overheads for the meeting space we may need to charge a modest membership fee.
What we need:
-
Members.
-
A gracious host with meeting space that can be used outside regular office hours.
-
Suggestions and requests for presentation topics.
-
Volunteers to give presentations and host/co-ordinate study groups.
-
Web space, ideally with forum software or a wiki.
